A Brooklyn Nets reporter got into a car accident while he was talking about guard Spencer Dinwiddie in a Twitter Spaces session.

A video of the incident sees — or, rather, hears — Nets reporter Erik Slater get into what the viral tweet described as being a “cartoonish sounding car crash” earlier in the week. While he’s speaking, Slater abruptly stops as the sound of screeching tires and collisions can be heard in the background.

Luckily, he seemed to be just fine, physically, at least. His pride and his car are another story entirely, as there’s no telling how much his vehicle was damaged in the crash.

After the crash and confirming that he’s okay, Slater — in a hilarious deadpan tone of voice — says “I’ve got to head out, guys” before logging off the space.

The 30-year-old Dinwiddie, who plays as a shooting guard for the Nets, is in his first season back with the team after spending 2021 with the Washington Wizards and 2022/2023 with the Dallas Maverick. Prior to that, Dinwiddie spent five years with the Nets from 2016 to 2021 and two years with the Detroit Pistons from 2014 to 2016.

This season, Dinwiddie is scoring 13.2 points per game on a 39.5% field goal percentage, while also adding 3.5 rebounds and 6 assists per game.

As the NBA approaches the All-Star break in February, the Nets currently sit 11th in the NBA’s Eastern Conference with a record of 17-26.

Following the departures of mercurial superstars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant last season, the Nets now find themselves in the NBA’s no-man’s-land middle ground as they try to figure out the next steps for the franchise.
