It appears that Jameis Winston’s time as the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints has officially come to an end.

Winston enterred the season as the starter, but struggled in Weeks 2 and 3 after barely escaping Atlanta with a win in Week 1.

After his Week 3 loss, it was revealed that Jameis was dealing with some serious injuries, including small fractures in his back and a ruptured tendon in his foot.

As he recovered from the injury, Andy Dalton stepped into the starting role and acquitted himself well. He’s gone 2-3 since taking over as starter, but the losses came in London in close game against the Vikings, at the Cardinals, and against the Bengals.

One of the 2 wins came over the Seahawks, which is looking more impressive by the week.

Last week, Winston was cleared to play against the Raiders, but the Saints stuck with Dalton.

Today their head coach made it perfectly clear that this move wasn’t just them being cautious with Winston. Instead, Dalton will be the team’s starter until he does something to lose the job.

Luckily for the Saints, most of Winston’s money on his current deal was pushed beyond this season, so he isn’t all that expensive as a backup.

This decision makes it much more likely that the team will cut him after this season and eat his $11.2 million in dead cap space for next year while looking for whoever their quarterback for the future will be.
