For the first time in his NFL career, Derek Carr will suit up for somebody other than the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2023 season.

After 9 seasons under center for the Raiders, Carr headed to the New Orleans Saints following the Raiders’ decision to bench him at the end of last year.

Despite the disappointing way that his time in Vegas came to an end, it looks like Carr might want a familiar face to join him with the Saints.

This morning, Carr posted to Instagram about his experience bowfishing in Louisiana. When Raiders receiver Hunter Renfrow responded to the post, Carr invited Renfrom to join him for some bowfishing.

Renfrow is believed to currently be available for trade after the Raiders brought in Jakobi Meyers this offseason, but he has reportedly not gotten much interest from other teams.

Maybe the Saints will change that, but it’s hard the appeal for them.

The team is currently set to have Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed lining up at receiver for the 2023 season. Thomas has excelled in the “big slot” role when healthy, which would mean there wouldn’t really be space for Renfrow in the Saints’ lineup.

Maybe Thomas could move outside and Renfrow could play in the slot. Maybe they want some kind of insurance in case Michael Thomas continues to be unavailable after missing most of the last 3 seasons.

Still, Renfrow would be an expensive addition to make for either of those reasons. It doesn’t make financial sense for the Raiders to release Renfrow, so the Saints would need to put together a trade for him.

He also carries a cap hit of over $15 million for next season.

Derek Carr could want one of his favorite targets to join him as he acclimates to his new home, but it would be surprising to see the New Orleans Saints make the move.
