Despite the massive improvements the New York Giants made during the 2022 season, there are still plenty of positions they need to address during this year’s draft.

Their wide receiver corps leaves a lot to be desired.

They could use an upgrade at cornerback.

They could use some help in the middle of their offensive line.

Even with those needs, it seems they are at least considering using their first round picket address a position that was one of their biggest strengths last season.

Saquon Barkley was one of the NFL’s best running backs last season and regularly put the Giants’ offense on his back throughout the year. Now his contract has expired and he hasn’t reached an agreement on an extension with the team yet.

That could potentially lead to him being franchised tagged or maybe the Giants will just look to replace him.

According to Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants met with Bijan Robinson, the top running back in this year’s draft class, at the NFL Combine.

If the Giants work out a deal with Saquon or franchise tag him then they definitely won’t be one of the teams considering Robinson.

Even if they don’t re-sign Saquon, they really shouldn’t be considering Robinson with their 1st rounder.

Robinson is an incredible talent, but running back should not be the priority for the Giants.

They will have opportunities to find a dependable starter later in the draft between Jahmyr Gibbs, Zach Charbonnet, and Zach Evans. Even Deuce Vaughn could be an interesting option late in the draft.

The most likely outcome of this situation is that Saquon Barkley will be the running back for the New York Giants next season, but it’s interesting that the team would take a meeting with the top running back in this draft class while figuring out if Saquon is their future.
