The New York Knicks have been one of the NBA’s biggest disappointments this season. After giving Knicks fans hope last year with a surprising run to the playoffs, but this year has been an entirely different story.

They currently find themselves outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture with a 24-29 record that has them scrambling to right the ship. They have already made one big trade to acquire Cam Reddish, but haven’t really seen any benefits yet.

Now, the Knicks are being linked to a trade for a guard who might be able to make a big impact for them down the stretch. According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Knicks are trying to acquire CJ McCollum from the Portland Trailblazers.

McCollum would provide the New York Knicks with one of the things they’ve been sorely lacking this season, a consistent scorer. Julius Randle has been tough to trust this season. RJ Barret has limitations on offense.

McCollum would be a pretty good solution to their offensive woes. He has averaged over 20 points per game in each of his last 6 seasons with the Blazers. He has continued that trend this season, averaging 20.5 per game for a bad Blazers squad.

Right now, the Trailblazers are in the midst of dealing every piece they think they can get a return for. They already sold off Robert Covington and Norman Powell for a meager return. Giving up McCollum right now would put the Blazers in full tank mode.

The Knicks need to make something drastic happen if they are going to have any hope of another playoff run. CJ McCollum could be exactly the type of player they need.
