The New York Giants have undergone sweeping changes in their organization this offseason They hired a new Gm, then brought in a new head coach. Next, they hired a new offensive Coordinator. This week, their defensive coordinator left the team to take the same job elsewhere.

This will all lead to a very different Giants organization for the 2022 season, but the changes might not be anywhere near finished. The Giants are already over the cap and their roster needs some serious fine tuning. A pair of draft picks in the top 7 will help with that, but the Giants will need to make some moves to fix their cap situation.

Their new GM has said that they need to clear $40 million in space, which is going to require some creativity. According to NFL Analyst, Jeremy Fowler, presented some possible solutions to the problem that might surprise some fans.

On a list of under-the-radar trade candidates, Fowler lister Saquon Barkley, James Bradberry, and Kadarius Toney.

Barkley has been a disappointment for the Giants after being selected 2nd overall in the 2018 draft. His last two seasons have been heavily impacted by injuries and next year he will be playing on the 5th-year option of his rookie deal.

He’ll count for a little over $7 million against the cap this season and the Giants seem unlikely to sign him to an extension. Trading Saquon Barkley now makes a lot of sense so the team doesn’t lose a former top pick for nothing after this season.

The Giants signed James Bradberry a couple of years ago to serve as one of the centerpieces of their defense. He carries a pretty heavy cap hit this year (a little under $22 million), but losing him be a big hit to an average defense. Still, it might be necessary and could get a decent return for the Giants.

Kadarius Toney would be the most surprising move of the 3. The Giants just spent a first round pick on Toney, even though most fans didn’t want them to. Now, they have an open receiver spot and Toney’s cap hit is pretty minimal at around $3 million dollar.

If they trade him now, they likely won’t recoup the 1st rounder they spent on him and would need to sign a replacement. Maybe the new regime just has that little faith in Dave Gettleman’s pick.

If Fowler is right on any of these, the New York Giants will be making a lot more headlines this offseason.
