One NFL bettor lost big this weekend on a trio of unexpected comebacks. This guy believe he’d just picked sure winners as the selections were up multiple scores at the time of placement.
Instead, second half meltdowns led to disappointment.
This weekend was one of the craziest we’ve seen in the NFL with a number of teams overcoming major deficits to land come-from-behind victories. Three teams with the largest comebacks were the Vikings, Jaguars, and Bengals. A fourth team nearly made the list, but a boneheaded mistake on the final play of regulation cost the Patriots a chance at a win.
All three of these squads saw themselves down by at least three scores at one point or another in the game. One bettor viewed those large deficits as a chance to quickly add to his bankroll. Instead, his account was flushed, and immediate regret felt.
Cincinnati would overcome a 17-0 disadvantage to win 34-23. After getting that lead, Tom Brady and Co. would turn the ball over on five consecutive drives to allow the Bengals to get back in the game. Cincy scored 34 straight points to leave with a huge road win.
The story was similar for the Cowboys, who blew a 27-10 lead against the Jaguars to eventually fall in overtime. Jacksonville outscored Dallas 24-7 over the final 20 minutes of regulation, then picked off Dak Prescott in the overtime session and swiftly returned it for the winning score.
Then, there was a failure of epic proportions as the Colts blew the biggest lead in NFL history. After jumping out to a 33-0 halftime advantage, Indianapolis crumbled in a game versus the Vikings. Minnesota scored 39 of the final 42 points to win in OT. They scored four touchdowns in the final 16:13 of regulation to pull off the massive come-from-behind victory.
While the comebacks made for great TV, they emptied the pockets of one bettor who placed live wagers on all three losing sides. According to Todd Dewey of the Las Vegas Review-Jounal, one person selected all three of these games, and somehow lost them all.
Colts blew 33-0 lead in 39-36 loss
Cowboys blew 27-10 lead in 40-34 loss
Bucs blew 17-0 lead in 34-23 lossSame @CaesarsSports bettor lost live bets of
$50K to win $1K on Colts (-5,000)
$90K to win $10K on Cowboys (-900)
$65K to win $10K on Bucs (-650)— Todd Dewey (@tdewey33) December 19, 2022
This is, one, just awful luck. I mean, we don’t always see one of these comebacks in an NFL weekend, let alone three. And with one being the biggest letdown in the history of the sport? Ouch.
But on the other hand, you’d think this guy would’ve learned his lesson after dropping $50K on the Colts Saturday night. Apparently not, as he’d lose another $150K on Sunday’s Ls.
While it may often seem like an easy way to build your account, it’s typically never a good idea to throw that much money down on a wager that will pay out very little in the grand scheme of things. It’s like adding that last money line bet to your parlay to boost the odds only to see the overwhelming favorite suffer a shocking upset.
This bettor learned the hard way, losing tens of thousands of dollars in a one quick weekend.
