Are you tired of tuning into an NFL game and hearing all about Taylor Swift, Madison Beer, or other famous wives and girlfriends of players? Well, you’d better get used to it.

If it feels like you’re seeing more content than ever before focused on the WAGs of NFL players, you’re not going crazy.

Not only are the NFL and its teams promoting more content along those lines, such as Beer and Chargers QB Justin Herbert canoodling at training camp, but they’re doing it intentionally as part of a behind-the-scenes campaign to appeal to more women.

NFL Pushing WAGs Content In Bid To Grow Female Audience

Ellyn Briggs of Front Office Sports recently looked into the growing phenomenon and found that the league has put an increased emphasis on content showing players with their significant others.

“On the league and club level, we’ve engaged our players’ families and loved ones for years,”  NFL SVP of social and influencer marketing Ian Trombetta said. “Whether it’s Training Camp, weekly practice or a major event like the Super Bowl, we look for authentic opportunities to highlight our players and the people who are part of their journey … The content is authentic, genuine and relatable, and that’s resonated strongly with women and young fans, who are key growth audiences for the NFL.”

While that may be true, the focus is larger now than it’s ever been before, and fans should expect it to continue to grow.

League sources told Briggs that they are “scaling up its female-focused content,” and “will be doing even more in the future” with women’s flag football featuring in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

So if you’re hoping to see less about pop stars and more about football from your favorite NFL teams this season, you’re probably going to end up pretty disappointed.
