The NFL once again demonstrated its dominance in the world of sports entertainment.

The 2023 NFL season opener, featuring the Detroit Lions facing off against the Kansas City Chiefs, proved to be a massive hit with viewers, as reported in a press release from NBC.

The game, which aired on NBC and streamed on Peacock, received an average audience of nearly 27 million viewers. The figure marked the highest viewership for any media event since Super Bowl LVII on FOX back in February.

Viewership peaked during the second quarter of the game, with 29.1 million viewers tuning in between 9:15-9:30 p.m. ET.

Even as the game neared its conclusion, a substantial audience of 27.1 million remained engaged from 10:45-11:00 p.m. ET, witnessing a game-winning drive by the Lions.
