NHL players are a different breed. Viewed as some of the toughest athletes in sports, an image of fist fights and chipped teeth immediately comes to the mind of the casual fan.

While brawls and black eyes are top of mind when thinking about the game of hockey, personal hygiene isn’t.

A few professional players further proved that in a recent TikTok video posted to the NHL account.

Travis Konecny, Robert Thomas, Cole Caufield, Mario Ferraro, Matt Boldy, and Johnny Gaudreau sat down for an interview, and were asked the million dollar question:

How long does it take the average person to shower?

Responses varied.

@nhl “that water bill has got to be heavy” 😂 #NHL #hockey ♬ original sound – NHL

The first three answers were seven minutes, while Ferraro lowered his standard to five minutes.

Boldy then went off the rails.

“Three and a half minutes… I think mine are a little longer but I’m thinking of the average human which I feel like isn’t that clean. Think about how many people you walk by and you’re like, ‘No way that guy showers.'”

Gaudreau was more stunned with Boldy than the topic at hand – “Three and a half minutes?? Does he use soap?”

The answer to the average shower length? 20 minutes!

Even for non-hockey standards, that seems long.

The NHL players were blown away.

“That’s crazy,” replied Boldy while Caufield asked, “Do they like paying for water?”

“That water bill has got to be heavy!”

The Healthy would agree, writing that showers shouldn’t far exceed 10 minutes in length.

“Spending prolonged time under the shower head can actually cause damage to your skin… When it comes to the duration of a shower, it is generally recommended that individuals limit their showers to 10 to 15 minutes. This is because prolonged exposure to water can strip the skin of its natural oils and lead to dryness and irritation.”

And there’s also the water wasting factor, which is an easy way to spike your bill.

Maybe we should be taking these NHL players’ advice!
