Nick Castellanos has developed an uncanny ability to hit a home run on the day a major event is unfolding in the world.

Ever since August 19, 2020, when Nick Castellanos — who was a member of the Cincinnati Reds at the time — hit a home run in the middle of broadcaster Thom Brennaman’s apology for using a homophobic slur, the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder has proven that he has a genuinely bizarre penchant for going long amid serious situations.

On Monday, August 5, after a series of stock market events that had something to do with Japan — I’m a writer, not a financial analyst, so all this stuff is way above my head — a flood of bets were placed on Castellanos to go yard in the Phillies game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

According to Action Network, Castellanos was the most-bet player to hit a home run on Bet MGM Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, and DraftKings Sportsbook on Monday, August 5.

And he *almost* did it in his first at-bat, connecting on a triple that was just a few feet away from being a home run.
