Alabama officially named its football field after Nick Saban on Saturday. However, not everybody at the ceremony was able to witness the historic moment outside of Bryant-Denny Stadium prior to kickoff.
A hilarious video from the pregame ceremony depicts an awkward moment during the big reveal.
Saban, who retired in January, is the greatest coach in school history. He won 201 of 230 games with the Crimson Tide, including six national championships and nine conference titles in 17 years. As a result, he will forever be enshrined alongside legendary head coach Bear Bryant and former Alabama president George Denny. What used to be Bryant-Denny Stadium is now Nick Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Some might argue that Saban’s name should’ve replaced Denny’s name all together, but that is neither here nor there. The new title was formally unveiled at halftime in Tuscaloosa last weekend.
In addition to the on-field ceremony, the plaque outside of the stadium received an upgrade to reflect the new reality. All of the involved parties gathered at the sign while Nick Saban gave a speech. Hundreds, if not thousands of Alabama fans surrounded the podium on all sides.
Once the speech concluded, athletic director Greg Byrne and a few other people of importance moved next to the new sign for the big reveal and a photo op. There was just one issue…
A woman, presumably involved with Crimson Tide athletics, got trapped between the back of the sign and the bushes behind it. She was unable to exit without ruining the entire ceremony. Had she popped up in that moment, all of the pictures would’ve been ruined.
With nowhere to go, all the woman could do was get low and hide. So she did!
The entire ceremony took place while a lady ducked down behind the sign to stay out of the backdrop.
Nick Saban and the Alabama brass had no idea she was back there. Her mission was a great success!
