Jimbo Fisher elected to poke the bear no football coach should ever poke by talking trash about Nick Saban and Alabama and the Alabama head coache’s response was the definition of perfection.

During an appearance at the Houston Touchdown Club, Fisher was asked to share the keys to beating Alabama other than the obvious answer of having Saban retire.

While laughing, Fisher said, “We’re going to beat his ass, even when he’s there.”

WKRG sports anchor Simone Eli in Mobile, AL asked Saban for his opinion on Fisher’s jab, and in pure GOAT fashion, Saban delivered the perfect response by asking “In golf?”

Saban knew Fisher’s comment was about football, and after Eli clarified that the comment was indeed about football, Saban responded with “Well, I’m sure there will come a day. But is that what he was talking about? Football?”

Fisher was obviously joking with his original remark about beating Saban. Fisher is a lighthearted coach that always likes to joke around when the opportunity is there to do so, plus, he and Saban go way back as Fisher was the offensive coordinator and QB coach at LSU for the majority of Saban’s tenure in Baton Rouge back in the early 2000’s.

Nevertheless, joking about beating Saban and the Crimson Tide is a bold strategy. There’s no shame in being confident in your team’s ability, but giving the Tide this sort of bulletin board material months ahead of the season is a questionable strategy, to say the least.

Since arriving in College Station, Fisher’s Aggies have lost by an average of 23 points in their three meetings with Alabama.
