Nor’Easter Wreaks Havoc On Boston College Football Game As Wicked Weather Forces Blind Field Goal In The Rain

Boston College played its college football game against Virginia Tech in a nasty Nor’Easter. The weather was vicious.

Wind and rain led to one of the lowest-scoring halves of the entire season.

Despite the wicked conditions, the Eagles drew a pretty big crowd. College football fans embraced the conditions!

What is a Nor’Easter?

In its most simple form, a Nor’Easter is a powerful storm that affects the east coast of the United States. It’s that simple. The name comes from the strong winds that blow from the northeast. They can bring heavy snow or rain (depending on the time of year), strong winds, coastal flooding and large waves. Typically, all of the above.

This latest storm will sit over the Northeast and Mid‑Atlantic from Saturday through Monday.

The Nor’Easter is causing coastal flood warnings from the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Jersey Shore, with water 2–4 feet above normal at high tide. Wind gusts over 50 mph have been reported from southern Cape Cod to Long Island, southern New Jersey, and the Delaware coast. Trees are down and the power is out in parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maryland. New York and New Jersey even declared a state of emergency due to the flooding.

Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts is not in the eye of the storm. However, the home of Boston College still got hammered. Here is a look at the radar around 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon:

The Eagles and Hokies decided to move forward with the college football game despite the weather. Kickoff went as planned.

Boston College and Virginia Tech played college football in nasty weather.

Boston College fans took their tailgate inside on Saturday. A steady drizzle rolled into the area around 10:00 a.m. ET.

The rain started to increase during warmups.

As did the wind.

It was wet.

But fans were prepared for the storm!

They started arriving to the stadium with about an hour until kickoff.

And then it started pouring.

ESPN’s cameras were blurry because of the precipitation.

Things really started to pick up as halftime drew closer.

That did not stop the Eagles faithful from showing up! It was a pretty big crowd given the Nor’Easter conditions.

Virginia Tech attempted (and made) a 40-yard field goal in 50+ mph winds at the end of the second quarter. This was how it looked on ACC Network:
