North Carolina is currently investigating allegations of an inappropriate relationship between recruiting staffers and college football players at UNC. Polymarket wrongly implicated a group of women on the staff with a problematic post on social media.
One of the women no longer works for the Tar Heels and has not worked for the Tar Heels since 2019!
The details of this latest college football scandal are scarce. Names have not been named. It was nasty work by Polymarket.
UNC opened an investigation into the college football program.
General manager Michael Lombardi officially resigned from his role at the University of North Carolina on Thursday. He was placed on administrative leave on July 27 amid an investigation.
According to ESPN, the initial leave stemmed from a “human resources complaint filed by a former UNC front office employee.” The university will continue its ongoing investigation despite Lombardi’s departure. There are a lot of unknowns.
Steve Belichick is a big part of the investigation. The son of Bill Belichick was supposedly placed on medical leave at the beginning of August. However, a new report claims the lawyers hired by UNC to conduct the investigation are “questioning people” about his potential drug use. There are concerns that he might’ve used drugs while on campus and/or provided drugs to at least one player on the team.
Everything remains under wraps at this time. We don’t know whether he actually used or distributed drugs, or what kind of drugs. That will be answered by the investigation.
Meanwhile, the lawyers are also looking into possible sexual relations between assistant coaches and recruiting staff, and whether a member of the Tar Heels’ recruiting staff had a sexual relationship with a player. Nothing has been confirmed.
Polymarket wrongly implicated a group of female recruiting staffers.
The official account for ‘Polymarket Football’ posted a detailed breakdown of the investigation on X. The world’s largest prediction market mentioned the part about the alleged staffer-player relationships.
“A possible sexual relationship between a member of UNC’s recruiting staff and at least one player.”
An anonymous account, @GoIrish_97, replied back to Polymarket Football with a request.
“Can we get a photo of this recruiting staff please?”
Polymarket Football actually responded back to the anonymous account. It shared four individual photos of four different women who wore the Tar Heels logo in an official team photo for the North Carolina football team. The caption read as follows:
“UNC recruiting staff some of whom are under investigation for inappropriate staff-player relationships.”
Angela Ellington was featured as the first photo. Ellington currently serves as the Associate Director of Recruiting Operations for the college football program at the University of Georgia. She does not work for UNC and has not worked for UNC in seven years.
Therefore, she is involved with the active investigation. She was appalled by the post.
To be fair, Polymarket Football did adhere to her request. It ultimately removed the post on Friday morning, approximately 12 hours after it wrongly implicated Ellington and other UNC staffers as involved with the ongoing investigation. Not good.
