The New York Mets hosted Dollar Dog Night at Citi Field during their Tuesday night matchup against the Chicago Cubs, and based on both the score fo the game and the reaction of fans, the night was a massive success.

Not only were the Mets able to beat the Cubs to improve their record to 15-14, but the team also announced that they sold 44,269 hot dogs on the night, a record for Citi Field.

Perhaps more important than the win and the HDS (hot dogs sold — just made that up myself), though, were the vibes in the crowd, which could best be described as immaculate.

Not only were Mets fans able to eat delicious stadium hot dogs for a buck, but the whole idea of Dollar Dog Night obviously allows for tons of weiner/hot dog-related humor, which SNY, the Mets’ broadcasting network, absolutely nailed, as evidenced by the video that features Mets fans chanting “Seymour Weiner!”

The vibes at Citi Field continued into the 9th inning when the New York Police Department had to intervene because a glizzy guzzler so powerful emerged that it was causing a bit of chaos in the crowd, as fans were hurling their hot dogs at him while chanting “One more dog” and “Let him eat”.

Making the story even better is that, according to replies on Twitter to The 7 Line, which is basically the Mets’ nonofficial-official fan club, the guy did the 9-9-9 challenge (9 beers, 9 hot dogs, 9 innings) and then “literally hundreds of people were throwing their hot dogs at him.”

“So this guy was just all about the $1 dog night. Totally embraced it. The story goes, in the 9th inning everyone started throwing their extra dogs at him. Cops had to toss him so everyone else would stop. He wasn’t thrown out for having a good time and apparently left without incident,” The 7 Line shared on Twitter.

Another Mets fan ran into the Hot Dog Dawg on the subway and said he’s just a welder from Westchester who went to the game with his girlfriend to have a good time.
