Baltimore Ravens Odell Beckham Jr. recently revealed that he seriously contemplated retirement after sustaining his significant injury during Super Bowl LVI.

Beckham, who suffered a torn ACL during the game, made the tough decision to take a year-long break from football to focus on his recovery and reevaluate his future in the sport.

During his hiatus, Beckham wrestled with uncertainty about whether he wanted to return to the NFL at all. He admitted that he was open to the possibility of not coming back and was at peace with that decision.

Beckham entertained multiple offers from teams this offseason, but the Ravens made the biggest push. Odell sensed the same level of support and appreciation he experienced during his brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams.

Speaking to The Athletic’s Dan Pompei about his motivations for continuing to play, Beckham emphasized that he didn’t feel the need to prove anything to others. He firmly knows his capabilities and is secure in his personal life. Instead, his driving force comes from inspiring his loved ones, particularly his son.

Beckham hopes that his hard work and dedication will serve as an example, encouraging his son to pursue his dreams with the same passion and commitment.

The Baltimore Ravens demonstrated their high regard for Beckham’s talent by offering him a substantial $15 million contract.

Although Beckham initially sought a multi-year contract, he was moved by the Ravens’ genuine interest in him as a player and as a person, valuing more than just his on-field production.

Despite signing a one-year deal, Beckham is content with the arrangement and acknowledges that the 2023 season might be his last in the NFL. He has adopted a year-by-year approach to his career, cherishing the opportunity to give his all in the upcoming season.

“I’m thinking like this is my last year,” Beckham stated candidly. “I’m going to give it my all this year. And then if something happens after that, we can go from there.”
