A former 4-star quarterback has decided to make a move across the SEC today.

Freshman QB Walker Howard decided to enter the transfer portal and leave LSU after barely playing in his first year with the team.

Today he posted on Twitter to reveal his decision on where he will continue his career next season. Howard will joining the Ole Miss Rebels for for next season.

Howard spent his freshman season at LSU buried on the Tigers’ quarterback depth chart. He was never going to have much of a chance to be the team’s starting QB last season after LSU went out and got Jayden Daniels from Arizona State.

He was also stuck behind backup Garrett Nussmeier last season. Over the course of the season, he only threw 2 more passes than star receiver Malik Nabers.

With Daniels sticking around for another season, Howard would have spent another year on the bench at LSU and his chances of starting didn’t look much better beyond that.

Even beyond that, it isn’t clear if he’d have ever been the start for the Tigers. Nussmeier was a redshirt freshman this past season and is already ahead Howard in the pecking order.

Unfortunately for Howard, his chances of being a starting quarterback might not be much better at Ole Miss for the next couple of years. The team already has Jaxson Dart as their starting quarterback.

Dart led the Rebels to a winning record during the 2022 season and had the team ranked as high as 7th in the nation. Dart is also only heading into his junior season and could be the team’s starter for the next 2 years.

Howard heads to Mississippi with 4 years of eligibility remaining.

It looks like the Rebels could have found their answer at quarterback for when Jaxson Dart is ready to move on.
