One Baltimore Orioles fan made the play of the day on a foul ball Thursday afternoon. The baseball-goer secured that catch in his plate of BBQ.

The snag sparked an immediate reaction from fans in the stands as the man took a moment to celebrate to the cheers of his supporters. It went viral on social media shortly thereafter.

The O’s and Astros faced off on Thursday in a little daytime baseball action. The midweek matchup featured a pair of probable playoff powers, giving viewers a potential preview of the postseason.

But while the plays on the field were certainly exciting, it was this fan and his BBQ that stole the show.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, with the Orioles leading Houston 2-1, infielder Ryan O’Hearn stepped to the dish. On a 2-2 count, the lefty smacked a foul ball down the first base line, which quickly made its way into the right field stands.

A pair of fans attempted to reel in the wayward line drive, but just missed as the ball slipped through their fingertips. A man then stood up out of his seat with the ball sitting in his tray of lunch.

The foul ball landed squarely in his plate of food, donning a glob of BBQ sauce as he showed it to the crowd.

The internet lost it after watching the messy grab.

“The real question is, did he finish his tray of food after the ball landed in it?” one fan asked.

“Did he lick the baseball though?” inquired another.

After making the impressive snag, the fan would go on to celebrate an Orioles win. Baltimore tacked on three more runs to extend its lead to 5-2 before holding on in the ninth to land a 5-4 victory.

With the win, Baltimore again avoided being swept, adding to a streak that dates back almost 15 months.
