There are plenty of ex-athletes turned social media influencers who have become stars in recent years.
But it’s former college golfer Paige Spiranac who was one of the first and is still one of the most-famous.
Spiranac made her name playing college golf for San Diego State University, where she led the Aztecs to their first ever Mountain West Conference championship.
But rather than make a run at a pro career, she decided her future was in other avenues.
“So many growing pains,” she said of the decision on her Playing A Round With Paige podcast. “I was burnt out of, I wouldn’t say golf, just dedicating my life to something and not really seeing the results. With gymnastics, it was hard because I was fighting injuries and then with golf — golf is such an interesting sport because you can work out, eat right, practice and still not achieve your goals. That was something for me that I just couldn’t wrap my head around.
“It also went against everything that my parents ever told me because I come from two athletes. They always said, ‘If you put the work in and you dedicate your life to something, you will be successful.’ But that just wasn’t happening with golf and I was driving myself crazy because I felt like I should be achieving at a much higher level. … I had everything to be a world class golfer, but I just couldn’t put it together and I didn’t know why. It was driving me actually insane.”
Instead, Spiranac has turned into a social media superstar with over 3.8 million Instagram followers.
Spiranac showed why she has all those followers on Saturday. The blonde bombshell dropped a must-see video while wearing a patriotic stars and stripes bikini.
The post already has over 75,000 likes and and 2,000 comments in less than a day. Clearly Spiranac has established herself as an internet superstar. And she’s not going away anytime soon.
