In a move that is set to bolster the defensive backfield depth of the Carolina Panthers, the team announced on Thursday that they have signed veteran defensive back Eric Rowe.

Rowe, who has played for several teams during his career, including the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and Philadelphia Eagles, is expected to provide depth and versatility to the Panthers’ defense.

The 30-year-old Rowe has had a solid career thus far, playing at a decent level since his move from cornerback to safety later in his career. During the 2022 season, Rowe played in 14 games for the Miami Dolphins, recording two sacks and two passes defensed while playing 60% of the team’s defensive snaps (569 total). Additionally, he also played 21 snaps on special teams.

Rowe’s signing will give the Panthers a versatile nickel defender who can play multiple positions in the defensive backfield. He will serve as backup to Safety Xavier Woods and newcomer former Bengals Safety Vonn Bell. Rowe is expected to provide valuable depth and experience to the team.

Over the course of his career, Rowe has played cornerback, nickel back, and safety, making him a valuable asset to any team. He was selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, and was traded a year later to the New England Patriots. In 2019, he signed with the Miami Dolphins, where he played for the past four seasons.

At 6-1 and 205 pounds, Rowe has good size and athleticism, making him an effective defender in the secondary. He has recorded five interceptions and 41 passes defended in 100 NFL games.

Rowe’s signing is a solid depth move for the Panthers, who are looking to improve their defense and contend for a playoff spot in the upcoming season. With his experience and versatility, Rowe is expected to play a decent role in the team’s success, and help lead them to victory in the NFC South division.
