Last weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs played a shockingly close game against the Houston Texans.

The team heard to halftime trailing the Texans 14-13, opening up the possibility of them suffering the NFL’s biggest upset of the year.

Luckily for the Chiefs, they were able to get the win in overtime on a Jerrick McKinnon touchdown, keeping their hopes of earning the AFC’s top spot in the playoffs alive.

Patrick Mahomes was a big part of that. In the second half of the game, Mahomes didn’t throw a single incomplete pass.

Mahomes went 20/20 over the last 30 minutes of the game and led a pair of second half scoring drives. The only thing that stopped him from adding 2 more scoring drives were a Juju Smith-Schuster fumble and a missed field goal by Harrison Butker.

With those 20 consecutive completions against the Texans, Mahomes has set himself up with the opportunity to break an NFL record against the Seattle Seahawks.

The NFL record for consecutive completions is 25, meaning he only needs to complete his first 6 passes tomorrow to become the new record holder.

The Seahawks certainly aren’t a bad matchup for a quarterback looking to break an NFL record. Their defense hasn’t been great throughout the season and their recent numbers have likely been aided by facing the gauntlet of John Wolford, Sam Darnold, and Brock Purdy over the last few weeks.

The Seahawks have also had a tough time covering tight ends this season. They were absolutely shredded by TJ Hockenson early in the year, allowed Kyle Pitts’ best game of the year, and got torched by George Kittle last weekend. That’s bad news for a team that’s about to have to deal with Travis Kelce.

I wouldn’t bet against Mahomes putting his name in the record books this weekend.
