Patrick Mahomes is good, and he knows he’s good.
Mahomes is so good, in fact, that over a month before Super Bowl 58, before the NFL playoffs even started, the 28-year-old quarterback called his shot and “decided” that he and his team were going to win the Lombardi Trophy this year.
In a post on Instagram, Mahomes’ wife Brittany — who recently made her debut as a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition model — shared a texted that she received from Patrick on January 5 in which he declared that he’s “decided” the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl this year.
“This season was a special one! This guy never stopped believing in his team…through the ups and downs and all the doubters, never once did he doubt this team,” Mahomes wrote on Instagram about her husbands.
“He is a true leader and a team player. He continued to ask himself what he could do better to lead this team to the Super Bowl. I saw so much behind the scenes that I will forever be in awe of you as a person and a football player! You my guy deserved this!!! I love you and am always and forever proud of you.”
In Super Bowl 58 — his fourth appearance in the big game in the last five years — Mahomes completed 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception, and carried the ball 9 times for 66 yards.
Mahomes’ win over the San Francisco 49ers not only gave him the third Super Bowl title of his career but also made him and the Chiefs the first back-to-back champions in the NFL since the New England Patriots did so in 2003 and 2004.
Now that he’s got three Super Bowl titles before his 29th birthday, Mahomes is firmly in the conversation of being the greatest quarterback of all time and is undoubtedly starting to build a resume that could one day rival Tom Brady’s.
