The New England Patriots had no answers for the Chicago Bears. However, more surprisingly, Bill Belichick was swapping quarterbacks. It was an odd decision, as typically this strategy doesn’t pan out in the world of football. Now, players on the team are publicly addressing Belichick’s choice of rotating Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.

Patriots Players Share Their Thoughts On Bill Belichick’s Decision

According to Kevin Patra, only Belichick, Jones, and Zappe were aware that they would be rotating the quarterback position. No other player in the locker room knew this was part of the game plan. Rhamondre Stevenson backs that up by stating, “No. We weren’t aware.”

Even star wide receiver Jakobi Meyers weighed in. He was just as baffled as the rest of us when Bill Belichick decided to sub Mac Jones out of the game after just three drives, per Kevin Patra. “I would say it’s a shock, but we don’t really have time to focus on it too much. The bullets are already flying by the time we realized it. You have to go out there and keep making plays.”

Meyers continued sharing his input on the situation. It sounds like he didn’t appreciate Patriots fans chanting for Bailey Zappe after Jones had just three drives to start the game. “You hate to see one of your brothers treated like that. You want to see him do well. You want to see everybody do well, including Zappe, but as far as getting caught up in it, you really don’t have time to really focus on the decisions being made.”

The Patriots’ quarterback situation will be one to monitor moving forward. Maybe Mac Jones secures the starting spot eventually. However, it seemed like an easy decision for Bill Belichick to pull him out of the game. Long story short, we have a legitimate quarterback battle going on in New England.
