New England Patriots fans are in their feelings on Tuesday, as one of the great players over the last decade is calling it a career.

Dont’a Hightower is officially retiring from football and now the fanbase shares their support of the former star linebacker.

Hightower announced his official retirement by penning a letter on the Player’s Tribune. He is clearly happy with how his career played out in New England.

“Today, I am officially retiring from the NFL. I know these announcements always feel bittersweet, but I can’t think of a better story than the one I wrote in New England. A decade, three Super Bowls, two Pro Bowls, and the birth of my son — all playing for one franchise. How many guys have a story like that?”

Dont’a Hightower played nine seasons for the Patriots over a 10-year span. He proved to be a difference-maker on the defensive end, as he was the team’s leader on that side of the ball.

Patriots fans are going to miss him on the field, as they share their reactions to his retirement announcement.

Not many players can walk away from the game with three Super Bowl rings.

Former Patriots teammate Chris Long even shared his reaction.

It might be a while before New England finds someone to fill Hightower’s shoes.

As a reminder of how good he was, here’s a quick clip showcasing some of his best plays throughout his career.

Congratulations to Dont’a Hightower on having a spectacular career with the New England Patriots!
