New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has made it clear that financial constraints will never be a hindrance to the team’s success.

The Patriots, once hailed as the dominant force in the NFL during the 20-year Tom Brady era, have faced challenges in recent years, failing to win a playoff game 4 years in a row.

With that in mind, Kraft staunchly defended the team’s commitment to spending on players and dismissed any notion of financial limitations as the root cause of their struggles, via Boston.com’s Khari Thompson.

The debate over the team’s spending practices was ignited when Patriots coach Bill Belichick previously suggested that the team’s struggles were partially due to their low cash spending compared to other franchises.

In his 2022 end-of-season press conference, Belichick revealed that over a three-year period, the Patriots ranked 27th in the league in cash spending.

Kraft clarified that Belichick had never approached him and been denied any financial support for player acquisitions. Kraft asserted, “He has never come to me and not gotten everything he wanted from a cash-spending perspective. We have never set limits.”

Furthermore, Kraft adamantly reassured fans that spending money will never be an issue for the Patriots as long as he remains at the helm. He declared, “Money spending will never be the issue, I promise you, or I’ll sell the team.”

Despite the Patriots’ unparalleled success during the early years of the salary-cap era, they have encountered difficulties in recent seasons. Their once-dominant reign has come under scrutiny as they find themselves currently far from the elite status they once held.

The team’s fortunes have taken a downturn, and if the trend continues into the 2023 season, significant changes might be on the horizon for the franchise. The dynamics between Belichick and Kraft could be impacted by the team’s performance in the upcoming season.
