Season 2 of Full Swing on Netflix has dropped and in it, golf fans see Paulina Gretzky discuss how she and Dustin Johnson received death threats following his departure. Paulina also discussed how life has since improved and she believes the couple is in a better place than they were when Dustin was on the PGA Tour.
Dustin Johnson was one of the early PGA Tour defectors to LIV Golf and he signed with a reported $125 million contract. As icing on the cake, Paulina Gretzky‘s husband is currently #1 on the all-time LIV Golf money list with $52.8 million in earnings over 25 events, $18 million of which he won for earning the 2022 season individual champion title.
Prior to LIV, Dustin Johnson was one of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour. He was one of the most popular figures with golf fans. That fervent fandom was apparently enough to drive some fans crazy enough to send DJ and Paulina Gretzky death threats.
Speaking about the death threats, Paulina said “People sending death threats and awful, awful, awful things. People were aggressive that’s for sure. But that’s when I shut it down for a little bit. I was like I don’t need to look at this. Everyone has an opinion on it. Fine.”
By ‘shutting down’ for a bit, Paulina refers to disappearing from the limelight for a while. Prior to DJ leaving for LIV Golf, Paulina Gretzky was arguably the most famous PGA Tour wife and a model/celebrity in her own right.
Life Has Gotten Better For Paulina Gretzky And Dustin Johnson
According to Paulina, it’s not the $177.8 million in earnings in two short years that has improved their lives together. Gretzky said “We have a little bit more time together now since things have changed a little, whereas before it was ‘go go go.’ We have more control now of how we do things.”
Paulina added that “The old life we had… It was ‘I had to take a back seat’ but now it feels like we’re in the front of the plane together flying. It was the right move.”
Gretzky also spoke about the U.S. Open in Los Angeles and how it’s a special place for her:
I mentioned the $177.8M in LIV earnings above only because for some people, money doesn’t change everything. Dustin Johnson still sits in 4th place on the all-time PGA Tour money list with $75+ million in earnings. Tack on massive endorsements and the fact that Paulina Gretzky is the daughter of the greatest NHL player in history and sure, $177M changes their lives but they were already living an insanely comfortable and luxurious lifestyle together.
Paulina Gretzky doesn’t post on Instagram nearly as much as she used to be her life has also changed over the years. Dustin and Paulina also spoke about their current life on ‘The Scoop’ with Claire Rogers earlier this week:
