The Pepperdine University president made one lucky student’s day this past weekend with an incredible half-court shot. The impressive heave swished through the hoop to win a year’s worth of tuition.

The scene was absolutely electric in the gym as attendees erupted in the stands. A feel-good start to the fall semester in Malibu.

The school recently held its annual “Waves Weekend” event as a way of bringing students, parents, and alumni together. The schedule included local tours, excursions, carnivals, sporting activities, and a pep rally.

Here’s more from the university website:

Each year, Pepperdine’s Malibu campus transforms into a fun and festive carnival-like experience, where attendees enjoy rides on the ferris wheel, carnival games, and food trucks. This year, Firestone Fieldhouse was once again bursting with friends and fans for Blue and Orange Madness, which officially jump-started the Waves basketball season on Friday evening and introduced the men’s and women’s basketball team to the Pepperdine community in grand fashion.

The most exciting part of the weekend came during that basketball per rally, when school president Jim Gash nailed a half-court shot to win one Pepperdine student free tuition for a year.

Madness ensued.

Chaos took over as the president was swarmed by the basketball team on the court before making his way into the crowd.

The shot was easily the highlight of what looked to be an awesome weekend. The Pepperdine president had his moment, and he certainly didn’t disappoint by hitting nothing but the bottom of the net.

The Waves are getting in on the madness before March, and I’m suddenly ready for college basketball season.
