Virginia Tech blew out UVA in its season-ending rivalry game over the weekend, blasting the Cavaliers 55-17. VT attempted to commemorate the moment with a postgame photo on the field.

Virigina staffers weren’t having the rival team pose for a picture inside their home venue, though, cutting the sprinklers on as the group gathered at midfield.

It was the perfect image of the hate that runs through most college football rivalries.

Viewers were quick to comment on the coincidental timing of the sprinkler system’s start. Was the system really on a timer..?

“This is a different level of petty. Keep going.”

“So funny that UVA claims it’s on a timer! An hour after the game ends, 38-degree temps, and it’s nighttime. Denying it only makes it worse!!”

“Actually, love this pettiness.”

“That won’t be forgotten!”

It looks like the Hokies still got the photo taken.

Virginia Tech players might have this top of mind when UVA heads to Blacksburg next year.

As for this season’s edition of the rivalry, the game wasn’t close. VT jumped out to a 31-0 lead before letting off the gas a bit. The win was the Hokies’ third straight in the series.

With the loss, the Cavaliers end their season at 3-9. The Hokies improved to 6-6, gaining bowl eligibility.
