So imagine staying on the top floor of a hotel, the building being struck by lightning, a fire breaking out and being forced to evacuate.

Pretty crazy in its own right, that’s a once in a lifetime kind of scenario, no question.

Now imagine you’re a professional golfer and this happens a little over an hour before your tee time and you’re stuck with no clubs and no clothes to wear to the golf course.

Well, that’s what happened to Phil Mickelson this morning.

I of course hope everyone inside the building and in the area is safe, but man, the content gods really, really blessed us on this Sunday morning.

If you had to pick any golfer for this scenario to actually play out with, I think Mickelson would have to be atop your list.

It’s unclear whether or not Mickelson was in his room or somewhere else in the hotel when the fire broke out, but just imagining the scene of Phil standing outside of the hotel in what has to be black gym shorts, a black tee, black hat and let’s say black slides watching smoke come from the top of his hotel room is quite the image.

Mickelson tweeted the news out just before 10:30 AM EST and he’s set to tee off at 11:52 AM EST. That’s cutting it close, folks.

He is projected 49th in the FedEx Cup standings heading into Sunday’s final round of the BMW Championship which means Sunday would likely be his final round of the year, but his final round may have come on Saturday if he can’t rescue his sticks.

UPDATE:

It looks like Phil was let back in his room exactly one hour prior to his tee time at Medinah. It’s unclear whether or not he had to climb up a ladder to enter the room, but we can hope that was the case.
