I love posting up on my couch for the better part of a weekend to watch some golf as much as the next guy, and while I’m sure there are plenty of purists out there who genuinely like the general stuffiness of the sport, there’s nothing I love more than events that allow players to let their hair down a bit.

I’m not sure if there’s anything on the calendar that I look forward to more than The Ryder Cup, and even though I certainly respect the history of the 18th hole at the Old Course and the suspense that comes with watching guys try to stick it on the green 17th at TPC Sawgrass, those pale in comparison to watching 16,000 people go apeshit after a good shot on 16 during the Waste Management Open.

Part of the appeal of watching the PGA is seeing guys regularly pull off shit that your average golfer can only dream of doing, but at the same time, there’s nothing I’d love more than to watch pros play a regular round where they work their way through a six-pack while making bets and chirping whoever they’re playing with.

A couple of years ago, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods were nice enough to give us an idea of what that would look like when they agreed to face off against each other on Thanksgiving with a $9 million prize on the line.

Mickelson has a long and storied history of throwing down money on the course, and while he lost the $200,000 he put up after he failed to birdie the first hole, he bounced back by winning another $600,000 on three different bets before ultimately taking home the big prize after winning a four-hole playoff.

A couple of weeks ago, the PGA suspended its season and Augusta National announced The Masters were being postponed for the first time ever. As a result, a lot of golf fans are desperately searching for a fix.

Thankfully, we may have found one courtesy of Lefty.

On Sunday, a fan reached out to see if he and Tiger would be willing to have a cameraman follow them around an empty course for another head-to-head battle with their conversation broadcasted to the masses and Mickelson suggested the gears are already in motion before confirming he wasn’t simply getting our hopes up.

If they’re actually going to do this, I have a couple of requests A) No caddies and B) Whoever’s trailing after nine has to shotgun a beer.

Let’s make it happen.
