The Philadelphia Eagles are facing immense scrutiny after they allowed star quarterback Jalen Hurts to both play against the Jaguars and make a transcontinental flight while dealing with superficial blood clots.

Those blood clots ultimately shifted to Hurts’ lungs, and he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. Hurts is now on blood thinners and is expected to make a full recovery, but will likely miss the rest of the NFL season.

Now, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is under fire after fans noticed a trend of him bullying injured players into playing through injuries in the past.

Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman Pushed Star RT Lane Johnson To Play Injured

Earlier this season, Eagles right tackle and future Hall of Famer Lane Johnson announced his sudden retirement from the NFL. Amid the news, Eagles reporter Jeff McLane referenced an article he wrote about a 2018 interaction between Johnson and Roseman.

In the interaction, Johnson, famed for his toughness, was thinking about sitting out for a game after suffering a high ankle sprain. Roseman wasn’t having it.

“Roseman caught wind and berated him, sources present said. Nearby teammates and coaches couldn’t understand why he would provoke him, considering Johnson’s current state,” McLane reported. “The tackle finished suiting up, and as he walked by Roseman, the GM said, according to sources, ‘Good, you have your mouthpiece in; now you can’t say anything stupid.’

“The last comment, which a source close to Roseman said was intended to be playful, set Johnson off. ‘I can’t play for this [expletive],’ he said, according to a source. He took off his equipment and went to the showers and missed pregame warmups. Left tackle Jason Peters went to Pederson’s office for help defusing the situation.

Johnson eventually played in the game. But he made it through just seven plays before suffering further injury.

Roseman may well have had nothing to do with Hurts playing against the Jaguars. But it appears he’s fostered a culture that leads to players feeling pressured to play when they shouldn’t, and fans aren’t happy about it.

Regardless of who decided to let Hurts play against Jacksonville and then fly home, Roseman and the entire Philadelphia Eagles organization has some explaining to do.
