The Philadelphia Eagles offense is a mess, and three-time Pro Bowl offensive guard Landon Dickerson believes that it’s in part because the team made a major mistake with regard to personnel.
Dickerson, a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, made the Pro Bowl in three straight seasons from 2022 to 2024. But the 28-year-old left guard has also been plagued by injuries, including a knee injury that currently has him on injured reserve.
In order to account for Dickerson’s absence, the Eagles moved starting center Cam Jurgens, himself a two-time Pro Bowler, over to left guard, and inserted backup center Drew Kendall.
That decision hasn’t paid dividends, as Jurgens has struggled mightily, although head coach Nick Sirianni has strongly backed his player. Dickerson, meanwhile, says that Jurgens’ struggles are largely the product of the position switch, which the team should have seen coming.

Landon Dickerson Says Philadelphia Eagles Set Cam Jurgens Up For Failure
While many fans have been critical of Jurgens in recent weeks, especially on the back of consecutive losses to the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams, Dickerson is backing his teammate.
“Cam is a center. I do hate that we made that decision to move him to left guard,” he recently told Sports Radio WIP. “Because you never want to mess up — if one person goes down, you don’t want to mess up two people just to fix it.
“Obviously I don’t have a say when it comes to personnel stuff, but I think it was just a moment where we don’t have the depth that you would ideally like to have across the board. That was the way to get the best five guys onto the field.”
Putting the best five guys on the field makes sense in a vacuum. But so much of good offensive line play is about cohesion. So the five best individuals might not always make for the best unit.
Did Philadelphia shoot itself in the foot by moving Jurgens to guard? Dickerson certainly seems to believe so.
