Philadelphia Eagles Superstar Darius Slay Shocks NFL World By Seeking A Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles fell just minutes short of winning a Super Bowl this past season.

But now things begin to get tricky for perhaps the most talented roster in the entire NFL.

Superstar quarterback Jalen Hurts is set for a huge pay day as he nears the end of his rookie contract. But the Eagles also have to focus on re-signing a number of other big names.

Neither of defensive stars CJ Gardner-Johnson and Javon Hargrave received the franchise tag this past week, meaning both are likely to become free agents. While Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders is also set to hit the open market.

But what about star cornerback Darius Slay?

Philadelphia acquired Slay in 2020 in a trade with the Detroit Lions involving third and fifth-round NFL Draft picks. Since that point, he’s reclaimed his status as one of the league’s best corners.

But with no long-term deal in place and the Eagles short on cap space, Slay’s future with the team is in doubt. That doubt grew even larger on Friday thanks to a report from ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

“The Philadelphia Eagles have allowed Darius Slay’s agent Drew Rosenhaus to seek a trade, per sources. The Eagles are still hopeful to find a solution where Slay remains an Eagle,” Russini said in a tweet.

Should Slay look elsewhere, he’ll likely have no shortage of suitors. The 32-year-old is still one of the game’s best cornerbacks and is considered a locker room leader.

One NFC East rival has already tried to recruit him.

@bigplay24slay I promise no drop off at pass rusher!!!,” Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons said.

Slay is set to enter the final year of a three-year, $50 million deal he signed with the Eagles after arriving from Detroit. He’s made the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons.
