A Phillies fan had a home run ball stolen by a bully.
A Philadelphia Phillies fan was bullied out of a home run ball during a recent game at Citizens Bank Park. He provided a brief recap during a radio show appearance the following morning.
The fan, Chris, was initially in a state of shock. He says the home crowd was on his side as it spewed vitriol towards the menacing thief.
Chris caught a home run ball. He left the stadium with nothing to show for it. The bizarre interaction was caught on camera. Here’s what he had to say.

Trea Turner smacked one of his two home runs out to left field in a matchup versus the Dodgers on Monday. One Phillies fan attempted to make the grab using his hat. The force of the homer threw his ‘glove’ from his grasp.
The ball then landed in the hands of another fan sitting one row back. He secured it fair and square.
Angry at his failed try, the perturbed bully confronted Chris. “That’s my ball,” he said before swiping it from Chris’s grasp.

“The ball’s in my hand and his hat’s on the floor,” he recalled. “I’m celebrating… Then he’s just saying, ‘It landed in my hat, it’s my ball.’ I’m like, ‘The ball’s in my hand.’ I didn’t have time to react… He just ripped it out of my hand.”
Chris says the Philadelphia crowd let the bully hear it.
“He was getting boos,” he continued. “Philly let him know.”
Chris did say the fan later thanked him for giving the ball up. It did not change the public perception. Unfortunately, it would be one of two failed attempts to secure a home run ball during the contest.
Chris dropped a second homer later in the game.

“My eyes had hearts in it,” he said of seeing a second homer fly in his direction. “Here’s my makeup chance… It hit my hands and who knows where that ball went.”
Despite leaving the stadium with nothing, Chris had Phillies fans on his side. They complimented him for his composure. He was the bigger man.
This is not the first awkward fan exchange to go viral during a Philadelphia game. Last September, a woman dubbed “Phillies Karen” was seen yelling at a man that took a ball from under her feet to give to his son.
She later forced the man to take the ball from his child and hand it to her.
In both instances, the reactions were excessive. It’s not that deep. Yes, home run balls provide a fun story and gameday souvenir, but grown men and women should not be throwing temper tantrums after missing their shots.
Chris was applauded for his response. We’ll see if the bully makes his account of the exchange public.
