A terrible sight in Pittsburgh today as Pirates’ pitcher Ryan Vogelsong was carted off the field after taking a Jordan Lyles fastball to the head in the bottom of the second inning against the Colorado Rockies.
The ball appeared to catch Vogelsong near the temple area before he could get out of the way, and he was carted off the field and hospital bound after the incident. You can watch the whole scary thing below.

Without a doubt, this is the worst way to get an RBI, ever, all-time. A staff photographer also captured this surreal/horrifying image close to the moment of impact.

Obviously, this isn’t something you ever imagine happening when you suit up for a game. But, as the one commentator pointed out, at least he was aware and talking, although, you could tell by his face that there’s surely some cause for concern.
