Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress‘ name became synonymous with ‘bad gun decisions’ after his accidental shooting in 2008.

The former New York Jets wide receiver was at the LQ nightclub in Manhattan when he accidentally shot himself in his right thigh when his Glock pistol slide down his jeans pocket and he reached for it and accidentally pulled the trigger. After that, his name was inextricably linked to the incident.

As a guest on The Carton Show on Tuesday morning, Plaxico Burress issued advice to Ja Morant who finds himself at the center of a gun-related controversy.

Ja Morant was suspended 2 games but could miss a lot more time than that as there is no timetable for his return and it’s being called “an ongoing healing process.” Plaxico Burress’ advice to Ja Morant is poignant and timely:

Plaxico says if he were speaking to Ja Morant, who is young and has the chance to be the face of the NBA one day, he’d tell Ja to “learn from me.”

Burress says “If you can’t learn anything, learn from me. Make better decisions because you really don’t want for him to have that label being that he’s so young. He has the opportunity to be the face of the NBA. He’s that great of a player.” The whole TV segment can be seen on YouTube.

New details about the Ja Morant incident also suggest he ignored advice from a teammate immediately prior.

Meanwhile, Plaxico Burress also spoke on the Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets rumors. That move seems like a near-done deal at this point. Plaxico thinks Aaron Rodgers to the Jets is a bad decision:
