Police Are Now Investigating The High School Football Players Who Targeted And Attacked A Official On Field

Over the weekend, we told you about the two football players in Texas who intentionally blindsided a referee with a brutal hit because of a “bad call” earlier in the game. It’s maybe the most unsportsman-like thing we’ve ever witnessed:

Now local police are investigating the hit, contemplating charging both of them with assault. They could face jail time and be tried as adults in Texas. Via CNN:

No arrests have been made. Police in Marble Falls, Texas, said they are investigating the incident.

Investigators have contacted Burnet County Attorney Eddie Arredondo, whose jurisdiction includes Marble Falls, and the prosecutor has said he is open to filing charges, Marble Falls Police Department spokesman Tom Dillard said.

Dillard wouldn’t speculate on the timing of any potential charges. If charges are filed, he said, the football players could be looking at counts of assault.

Individuals 17 and older are considered adults in Texas. Dillard said he did not know the players’ ages.

They were already suspended by the school and kicked off the team. But it’s going to be interesting to see if charges are levied. Hard to believe that they won’t since that hit had absolutely nothing to do with the game. Personally, I think they deserve the charges just to show hotheaded student athletes that they’re not above the law and can’t get away with entitled bullshit that hurts other people like that.
