Police bodycam video has been released of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson getting pulled over by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in his pickup truck last month.
Deshaun Watson was accused of driving 86 mph in a 60 mph zone when a trooper pulled him over in his pickup truck at around 8:30 a.m. on August 26.
According to bodycam footage from the stop that the California Post obtained, Watson’s interaction with the trooper was short and courteous. Watson appeared relatively calm and composed when the officer informed him of why he was being pulled over before taking his license and registration information.
During the interaction, the trooper also tells the quarterback that he will be getting a ticket.
“I will be issuing a citation for the speed,” the trooper told Watson. “Hang tight.”
After that, he returned to Watson, handed him the speeding ticket, and then gave him instructions on what to do after the citation was issued.
Watson reportedly entered a not guilty plea to the citation in Cleveland Municipal Court on September 9 and was granted a new court date of September 23.
Deshaun Watson is still under scrutiny and making excuses for his poor play
Deshaun Watson, following a poor preseason, did not play particularly well in the Cleveland Browns’ 34–10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 205 yards and one touchdown, but he also threw an interception on his third pass and was sacked five times.
After the game, Watson blamed the media for creating unrealistic expectations. Prior to Sunday’s game, the Cleveland Browns, who signed Watson to a $230 million contract before the 2022 season, had so far seen him play in just 19 games with a total of just 3,365 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions over three seasons.
“Personally, I think all that is from the media. I think the media has this expectation that I’m supposed to throw 400 yards and five touchdowns every week,” Watson said. “So until that happens, I guess it’s going to be the same situation. My job is to make sure I’m operating well so we can try to get a win and keep moving forward from there.”

On Tuesday, Browns head coach Todd Monken was asked about Deshaun Watson’s future as the team’s starting quarterback. In particular, he was asked if Watson has to play well to earn another start in week three, the Browns’ home opener.
“I wouldn’t say that,” Monken said. “I always expect our players to play well. I wouldn’t put them out there if I didn’t. I expect him to play really well and there were moments on Sunday when he did.”
