Prime Video is reportedly keeping tabs on Sean McVay
Kirk Herbstreit may have just landed a new deal with Amazon to continue calling Thursday Night Football games, but there’s a catch that could see him looking for a new job: Prime Video is reportedly leaving the door open for Sean McVay.
According to a report from The Athletic‘s Andrew Marchand, Amazon has re-signed Kirk Herbstreit as its main Thursday Night Football analyst to call games alongside Al Michaels. Sources told Marchand the contract runs multiple seasons at eight figures per year. Herbstreit is currently in the final season of his original five-year deal.
Prime Video re-signed Kirk Herbstreit, but the deal reportedly includes outs that let Amazon move on if Sean McVay becomes available
Prime Video tried to land McVay before it hired Herbstreit five years ago. After the Rams coach won the Super Bowl in 2022, Amazon executives put together an offer in the neighborhood of $20 million per year, but McVay re-signed with Los Angeles.
Michaels, 81, also preferred McVay, as the two are friendly and dine together in L.A. McVay has also spoken publicly about wanting to call games someday.
Herbstreit’s ESPN deal, which covers his top college football analyst job and College GameDay, also expires at the end of this season, with Marchand reporting that ESPN doesn’t plan to address it until after the college football season.
Michaels is on a year-to-year contract, and Prime Video has reportedly put CBS play-by-play man Ian Eagle atop its list to eventually replace him. Eagle is in the last year of his CBS deal.
Entering the season as the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl, McVay and the Los Angeles Rams have begun the season with a 1-2 record following losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. They’ll look to get back to .500 this weekend when they head to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles.
