The Las Vegas Raiders “seem likely” to sign former Baltimore Ravens All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters.

According to a report from Vic Tafur of The Athletic, it appears likely that the veteran cornerback will join the Raiders before the start of training camp.

The 30-year old visited the Raiders last month and has reportedly maintained contact with the team as he explores his options in free agency. While the Raiders have other veteran cornerbacks on their radar, there is a growing belief that Peters may end up signing with the team he rooted for as a child in Oakland.

During the 2022 NFL season, Peters started in all 13 games he played for the Ravens. He tallied 47 tackles, including two for loss, recorded a sack, and made one interception.

Peters has gained a reputation as one of the league’s top ballhawks, known for his exceptional playmaking abilities. Throughout his career, he has accumulated an impressive 32 interceptions and defended 92 passes.

However, his performance declined slightly last season, as he only managed to secure one interception and received a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 69.5, which is relatively modest compared to his usual standards.

The cornerback is known for his high-risk, high-reward style of play. While he has proven his ability to change the course of games with his six pick-sixes, he has also allowed over 500 receiving yards and five or more touchdowns in each of his last four seasons.

That aspect of his game has raised concerns among some teams, but his playmaking skills and impact cannot be overlooked.

If Peters does indeed join the Raiders, he is expected to provide a significant boost to their struggling secondary. Las Vegas has been plagued by concerns over their defensive backfield, and Peters could bring much-needed improvement to their pass defense.

Despite his recent statistical decline, Peters’ track record as a two-time first-team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler highlights his immense talent and potential impact on the field.

Peters began his NFL career as the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft when he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs. He immediately made an impact, earning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and establishing himself as a rising star in the league.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 and then to the Ravens in 2019, where he continued to showcase his skills.
