The Las Vegas Raiders offered their franchise tagged running back, Josh Jacobs, a deal worth $12 million per year, according to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo.

“My understanding is that Josh Jacobs got an offer from the Raiders around $12 million per year,” Garafolo stated during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show.

Comparisons were drawn to New York Giants’ running back Saquon Barkley, as Garafolo added that if offered the same $12 million deal before the deadline, Barkley would have taken it.

However, Garafolo added: “The Giants just wouldn’t go there.” with Barkley and wanted to pay him less than $12 million per year.

The situation with Jacobs has become more complicated as he remains in a holdout stance, refusing to accept the $12 million offer made by the Raiders.

Jacobs, who was franchise tagged by the team during the offseason, has yet to sign the contract, keeping him out of potential fines for non-participation in the ongoing Training Camp.

Reports have emerged that Jacobs even left Las Vegas via a flight and shows no immediate intention of joining the team for the camp. The impasse in contract negotiations could potentially lead to a prolonged standoff between the player and the franchise.

Adding to the intrigue, running backs across the league have initiated communication amongst themselves, creating a text chain and even holding a Zoom meeting to discuss their shared predicament of declining market value.

Saquon Barkley’s situation had mirrored Jacobs’, but the Giants’ star running back eventually relented, agreeing to a 1-year, $11 million deal through additional incentives.

As the league gears up for the start of pre-season, the unresolved contract situation with Josh Jacobs adds an element of uncertainty to the Raiders’ plans moving forward.
