With the franchise tag deadline in play, the Baltimore Ravens made the decision to tag Lamar Jackson.

It’s a rather bold move, considering the superstar quarterback is only interested in a long-term guaranteed deal. With that in mind, things are still rocky in Baltimore.

Even so, the tag situation isn’t quite as easy as you’d expect. According to Kimberley A. Martin, the Ravens gave Lamar Jackson a non-exclusive tag.

Basically, the Ravens gave themselves some options in regard to their quarterback. Opposing teams will have the chance to make contract offers to Lamar Jackson.

If Jackson accepts a deal, Baltimore will be given a chance to either match or decline the offer. If they match the deal, then he remains with the Ravens on whatever that deal may be.

On the other hand, if the front office opts to decline the offer, then they’ll receive two first-round picks from the team who signs him.

It’s a tricky situation, as the Ravens are basically aiming to prove a point to Lamar Jackson. They haven’t come anywhere close to what he’s been asking for and the front office sure seems confident opposing teams will be offering closer to their side.

This is going to be a long offseason, as Jackson has been very adamant about what he’s been demanding. We’ll see what kind of offers he receives throughout the offseason.

With that said, this is far from being over.
