Ray Lewis is one of the greatest defensive players in the history of the NFL. He holds the NFL records for tackles and was a 13 time Pro Bowler.

However, it was at one of those Pro Bowls that he says Peyton Manning’s wife told him something that made him an even better player than he already was. That’s right, not Peyton Manning, directly, but Peyton Manning’s wife.

Lewis shared the story on Wednesday during his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

“My secret sauce was, I stayed up and played the game after 2000… after 1998, me and Peyton Manning was first at the Pro Bowl, old school Pro Bowl,” Lewis explained to Eisen.

“And I never understand, I never understood, Peyton’s wife is SO cool. Oh my God, she’s amazing.”

Peyton Manning’s wife shared a secret with Lewis that elevated his game

“And she’s like, ‘He studies you, all day every day.’ And I’m like, ‘Really? Wow.’ So I need to change my game!

“So I started studying him… more though. You know, quarterbacks, all they do is click. So I built an entire room in my house just so I can watch film. So I became this guy who wanted to know everything.”

“I went to Marvin Lewis and said I want to know every check that a defense runs, that we run, that we have, why do we check out, why do we stay in a certain defense on first down and 10 or second right? So all of those little things when you think about the game now, that’s what you see missing from the defensive side of the game.”

Lewis continued, “When you actually get to plan those type of chess match games against Brady and Peyton, it’s the smallest things ever that will decide the wins and losses in that game.”

One has to now wonder if Peyton Manning knew what his wife did to make his life more miserable when he played games against the Baltimore Ravens after that Pro Bowl.
