A popular target for needy basketball teams has just entered his name into the transfer portal. Max Abmas, a four-year player at Oral Roberts, plans to leave the program.

The guard has been one of college basketball’s top scorers over the last three seasons, leading the nation in points per game as a sophomore. He should be highly sought after over the coming months.

Abmas has all the tools and experience you want to see in a star. He’s been a two-time NCAA Tournament participant, leading the Golden Eagles to the Big Dance in 2021 and 2023.

In the ’21 campaign, Abmas led the nation in scoring at a clip of 24.5 points per game. He bested AP National Player of the Year Luke Garza for that title.

In the process, he helped Oral Roberts not only win the Summit conference tournament, but he guided them to a pair of wins as a 15-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Golden Eagles upset No. 2 Ohio State in the opening round before taking down Florida to book a ticket to the Sweet 16.

This season didn’t last quite as long for the Eagles as they were beaten in the opening round by Duke, but Max Abmas’s skills were on full display. The talented veteran scored 21.9 points a night, his third straight season averaging more than 20 a game.

After starting 123 games with Oral Roberts, though, he’s decided to move on.

Fans were quick to comment on the surprising decision as they posted responses online. Outside of the folks posting their transfer predictions, the overwhelming reaction was one of shock.

Of course, some of that surprise was in response to his eligibility. He’s seemingly been in school for a decade, now.

Max Abmas should provide an immediate boost at his next destination.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
