Zach Wilson has once again been demoted in the New York Jets’ quarterback rotation. The first-round pick is now QB3 according to head coach Robert Saleh.

Fans around the NFL are far from shocked to hear the news.

The passer was booed during an absolutely horrific showing in the Jets’ most recent loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In that Thursday night performance, Wilson completed just 50% of his passes, accumulating 92 yards and a pick. He was outdueled by draft class peer Trevor Lawrence in the 19-3 defeat as New York’s playoff hopes continue to fade.

Saleh saw enough of the quarterback in that loss, leading to his benching midway through the contest. This, coming in Zach Wilson’s return to the starting lineup.

It’s been a rocky year for the former No. 2 overall selection, who’s amassed 5-4 record as a starter. In those nine games under center, Wilson’s completed less than 60% of his passes on six occasions while throwing more interceptions than touchdowns.

Though he took responsibility for his poor play (this time), it wasn’t enough to help him keep the starting job. NFL insider Ari Meirov said on Monday that he’s been demoted once again.

HC Robert Saleh says Mike White is back as the starter and Joe Flacco is the backup. Zach Wilson is back as QB3 and inactive on gamedays.

Fans on social media have been quick to comment on the report, posting replies to the news.

One person wrote, “Biggest bust in NFL history,” while another said, “Getting stuck behind even Flacco is the strongest hint that him and his agent better start looking around for a new landing spot.”

Mike White will assume the starting role for the Jets’ upcoming matchup against the Seahawks as New York tries its best to slip into the postseason. They’ll need a little help from the Patriots to do so.

New England must lose one of its remaining two games while the Jets win out. After a strong start to the season, it will be a huge letdown if New York is sitting home for the playoffs.
