The Heisman Trophy unveiled a slight change to its official logo on Monday leading to a reaction from college football fans across the country. Though, minimal, the adjustment is noticeable.

Many have been quick to post their thoughts on social media and the response has been fantastic.

The Heisman Trophy is college football’s most prestigious award. Dating back nearly a century, it was originally introduced as the Downtown Athletic Club Trophy with the inaugural winner being University of Chicago star Jay Berwanger.

In 1936, it was renamed following the passing of legendary player and coach John Heisman to become the award we know today.

The design was created by the DAC, who believed a trophy or cup was “too commonplace,” lacking the distinction of athletic excellence. Instead, an image of a runner driving for yardage was conceptualized with the committee eventually agreeing on the high step and stiff arm.

Over the years, we’ve seen some of the sport’s greatest players win the award including Earl Campbell, Bo Jackson, Barry Sanders, and Herschel Walker.

Of late, we’ve seen a shift from running backs to quarterbacks, with 19 of the last 23 winners playing under center. Wideouts have taken home the trophy five times while only one primary defender has ever won in Charles Woodson.

Last year’s winner was USC’s Caleb Williams, but there will be a new look when the next award ceremony rolls around.

The Heisman Trophy recently revealed a logo change on social media alongside a caption that read, “Our logo is changing. Our commitment is not.”

While small, the change is noticeable. The stiff-armed runner looks ever-so-slightly different and there’s been a shadow added below the figure. The most apparent adjustment is the removal of “Trophy” below the ball carrier.

Now, it simply reads, “Heisman.”

Fans have been quick to react to the change online. The replies are hilarious.

Some don’t think there’s much of a difference at all.

“Nothing changed,” one tweet read.

Others said the new logo looks like their favorite player.

“So cool of them to put Spencer Rattler as their logo,” this fan said.

One of the funnier replies read, “The Heisman Trophy is still encouraging dangerous head protection, I see.”

Someone else thought the new logo looked “sassy.”
