Ohio State’s Ryan Day was riled up following his team’s win over Notre Dame on Saturday night. His Buckeyes scored on their last play of the game to pull out a thrilling road win.

After the game, Day blasted those that criticized his program’s toughness earlier in the week. One Reddit user used that postgame speech to roast the head coach.

More specifically, Day came after Notre Dame homer Lou Holtz, who predicted a Fighting Irish win over the weekend.

“Notre Dame is a better football team than Ohio State,” the former head coach said. “You look at Coach Day… He has lost to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan (twice), and everybody that beats them does so because they’re more physical than Ohio State.”

Day took the comments personally, bashing Holtz after the game.

After seeing running back DeaMonte Trayanum cross the goal line on the final drive, he unloaded on the criticisms.

“I’d like to know where Coach Holtz is right now. What he said about our team, I cannot believe. The is a tough team right here. We’re proud to be from Ohio… When someone attacks your family, to come in and win like this, it’s special.”

Ryan Day would reference that toughness a number of times throughout the postgame interview. One Reddit User used the speech to create a stat roasting the head coach after the fact.

The account did the math, and apparently Ryan Day was more likely to mention toughness or physicality than his team was to convert in one-yard situations against the Irish.

That would seemingly negate his point, though the Buckeyes did convert when it mattered (even if ND had just 10 men on the field).

Followers were quick to respond to the petty post.

“Top tier rivalry post, you have to respect it.”

“Ryan Day can’t hide from his advanced metrics.”

“Wow, this is some kinda pettiness.”

Rival fans hope Day continues to prioritize the team’s toughness, which they believe would be an egregious mismanagement of the roster.

“I mean if Ryan Day wants to spam the run game with a mediocre offensive line instead of making Marvin Harrison Jr. the centerpiece to send a message about being tough, I’m 100% cool with it.”

We’ll see if Coach Day continues to take the slights personally. For what it’s worth, he wouldn’t get much of an apology from Lou Holtz after the rant.
