So you almost never see anything like this on the PGA Tour because these guys are just an uncanny amount of good, but Rory McIlroy’s attempted flop shot on the ninth hole at THE PLAYERS Championship on Saturday looked like something you or I would pull off during the first range session of the season after dusting the clubs off following a frigid winter.
At least it reminds us that these guys are human every once in awhile, too. In defense of McIlroy, the rough at TPC Sawgrass is playing absolutely brutal this weekend, and it was pretty clutch to just turn the world-class switch back on and scoot the ball within a foot on his second attempt.
At the time of publication, Rory sits -5, tied for 24th place.
