Roy Williams is a real one! He bleeds North Carolina Tar Heel blue until the day he dies, as seen at the Final Four on Saturday.

The 73-year-old was caught rooting against his biggest rival!

While “caught” might be the wrong word, because the legendary college basketball coach was most certainly not trying to hide his allegiance, the video from Phoenix (Glendale) was spectacular. Williams was visibly frustrated by Purdue’s inability to stop North Carolina State early in the first half.

It is not uncommon for the Hall of Famer to show up to various college sporting events, but he is usually spotted at basketball games. Williams loves to support mid-major programs at every opportunity and will never turn down an opportunity to witness the Final Four in person.

He was sitting in the first row behind the media on Saturday.

There is no reason for Williams to remain neutral, especially three years into retirement. UNC is his alma mater. He got his start as an assistant in Chapel Hill. He coached the Tar Heels for 18 years and won three national championships with six Final Four appearances.

It is not a secret that Roy Williams, one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all-time, is rooting against N.C. State. That does not take away from how funny it is to see him actively rooting for the Boilermakers on the biggest stage while wearing a Tar Heel blue sweater.

That is next-level petty and it is well-deserved.

Williams has earned the right to root against anyone he wants. Especially the Wolfpack, for whom he consistently annihilated year after year.

UNC went 33-5 against N.C. State during his tenure. Roy Williams went 38-5 against them all-time.

It does not matter how many years have passed, he hates them the same. That’s awesome. This is what sports are all about!
